HANOVER COUNTY BAT REMOVAL

Bat Removal in Hanover County, Virginia

Hanover County spans very different property settings—from suburban Mechanicsville and the Ashland area to rural and agricultural land farther north and west. That range changes the buildings we inspect, even though the fundamentals of humane bat exclusion stay the same.

If bats are repeatedly using the same roof edge, chimney, vent, soffit or wall area—or you are finding droppings or hearing activity inside—call (434) 270-0488.

Mechanicsville and Rural Hanover Are Different Building Environments

Hanover County’s current comprehensive plan separates suburban and rural/agricultural land uses, and Mechanicsville is one of the county’s principal suburban centers. That means a bat call in Mechanicsville may involve a subdivision home, commercial building or denser neighborhood, while a property farther north or west may sit on larger acreage with a very different roof and access pattern.

For us, the local difference is structural—not promotional. The inspection has to match the building that is actually being used by bats.

Ashland and the I-95 Corridor Add Another Property Type

The Town of Ashland sits within Hanover County and the I-95 corridor supports a mix of residential, commercial and industrial development. County planning documents also identify Ashland-area and gateway planning issues separately from more rural portions of Hanover.

That can mean larger commercial roofs, mixed building ages and more complex exterior transitions than are typical on a detached rural home.

Why this matters during a bat inspection

A commercial roof edge, older town building, suburban home and rural residence do not necessarily have the same entry opportunities. We look at where activity is occurring, whether more than one exterior feature is involved, and what repairs will remain after exclusion.

This is why Hanover deserves its own service page rather than simply repeating Mechanicsville or Richmond copy.

Rural and Agricultural Hanover Still Covers a Large Part of the County

Hanover’s land-use plan continues to identify substantial Rural/Agricultural areas. Properties in places such as Beaverdam, Montpelier and the northern county can be very different from the suburban service area around Mechanicsville.

Detached homes, larger acreage, wooded surroundings and buildings that have been expanded over time can all change how a structural bat problem presents itself.

Seeing Bats Outdoors Is Not the Same as Bats Using a Building

Hanover’s mix of woods, fields, neighborhoods and rural land supports normal outdoor bat activity. A bat flying over a yard at dusk is not enough to diagnose an attic problem.

The stronger clues are repeated activity at the same part of a roof, staining around an opening, droppings below a roost, attic or wall noise, or a bat appearing inside occupied space.

What the Inspection Needs to Establish

Before exclusion, we want to know whether bats are actively using the building, where that use is concentrated, whether more than one exterior feature matters, and whether guano, insulation or repair issues will remain afterward.

Professional service can include inspection, humane exclusion when appropriate, correction of entry points, and evaluation of contamination or related repairs. The exact plan depends on the structure and current bat activity.

Exclusion Timing Is Part of the Service Decision

Virginia’s current rule for little brown bats and tri-colored bats restricts exclusion from maternity colonies between May 15 and August 31, except for specified human-health concerns. That means an active opening should not simply be sealed without considering timing and current conditions.

A bat found in a bedroom or other occupied room is a separate public-health issue. If contact with a person or pet may have occurred—or cannot confidently be ruled out—health guidance should come before routine structural work.

Hanover County Bat Removal FAQ

Do you serve Mechanicsville?

Yes, subject to service availability for the specific property. Mechanicsville has a more suburban building pattern than much of Hanover County, so the inspection is based on the actual structure.

Do you serve Ashland-area properties?

Yes, subject to service availability. Ashland and the I-95 corridor include a wider mix of residential, commercial and older building types.

What about Beaverdam, Montpelier and rural Hanover?

Yes, subject to service availability. Larger lots, agricultural land and detached buildings create a different service context from the suburban county.

Does seeing a bat outside mean it is living in my attic?

No. Outdoor bat activity is normal. Repeated activity at the same part of a building or evidence inside is much more significant.

Should I close the opening as soon as I find it?

No. The activity and timing should be evaluated first so bats are not trapped inside and current species protections are respected.
