Professional Squirrel Removal Across Much of Virginia

Virginia Squirrel Removal & Exclusion Services

If squirrels are running above the ceiling, chewing at a roof edge, or getting into an attic or wall, the problem is usually bigger than simply catching one animal. The building needs to be inspected for the active entry point, other vulnerable openings, nesting activity and any damage that may affect the repair plan.

We provide squirrel removal, trapping or exclusion as appropriate, entry-point repair, damage evaluation and cleanup guidance for homes and businesses across much of Virginia.

Squirrels in the Attic?

Do not seal the opening first. A visible hole does not tell you whether one squirrel, several squirrels, or dependent young are still inside.

What homeowners usually notice first

Signs a Squirrel Is Using Your Home

Squirrel problems often reveal themselves through sound, roofline activity or damage long before the animal is seen inside the building.

Daytime Running & Scratching

Fast movement above ceilings or in an attic during daylight often points to a gray squirrel. Repeated activity in the same area deserves an inspection before more damage occurs.

Chewed Openings at the Roofline

Squirrels may enlarge weak spots around fascia, soffits, vents, trim or roof intersections. The visible hole may be only one part of the building's vulnerability.

Nesting, Droppings & Damage

Nesting material, disturbed insulation, droppings, urine staining or chewed wood and wiring can remain after the animals are removed and may affect the scope of cleanup or repair.

Species changes the plan

Gray Squirrels and Flying Squirrels Do Not Behave the Same Way

Gray squirrels are active during the day and are often heard running, gnawing or moving nesting material in attics. They may use a larger, obvious opening near the roofline.

Flying squirrels are nocturnal, smaller and may use multiple small gaps. Nighttime scratching or rapid movement can point to a different type of infestation and a different exclusion strategy.

Why Identification Matters

The animal, time of activity, number of entry points and possibility of young all influence how the job should be approached. Treating every squirrel problem as the same can lead to an incomplete repair or animals being left inside.

If your activity happens mainly at night, see our dedicated Flying Squirrel Removal information.

From activity to a closed building

How We Approach a Squirrel Problem

A good squirrel job combines animal removal with an understanding of why the building was attractive and how the squirrels were getting inside.

1. Find the Active Entry

We inspect roof edges, soffits, fascia, vents, flashing, trim and other likely access areas while looking for fresh chewing, staining, tracks, nesting material and activity patterns.

2. Remove the Squirrels

Depending on the species, building and circumstances, the job may use trapping, exclusion or a combination of methods. The priority is to account for the animals before the final opening is closed.

3. Repair the Building

Once the structure is clear, entry points can be repaired or reinforced. We also identify secondary weaknesses that could become the next opening if only the obvious hole is fixed.

A common DIY mistake

Why You Should Not Seal a Squirrel Hole Too Soon

Finding the opening is important, but closing it immediately can make the problem worse if squirrels are still inside. An adult may chew a new opening while trying to get back in, or an animal trapped inside may damage another part of the structure trying to escape.

The possibility of young is another reason the timing and sequence of removal and repair matter. Inspection should come before the final seal.

Call Before the Damage Spreads

Chewing around roof edges, vents and wiring can turn a small entry problem into a repair problem. If you are hearing repeated activity or have already found an opening, tell us what you are seeing and where the property is located.

Questions homeowners ask

Frequently Asked Questions About Squirrel Removal

How do squirrels get into an attic?

Common access areas include damaged soffits, fascia, vents, roof intersections, trim gaps and openings that squirrels enlarge by chewing.

Will squirrels leave on their own?

They may leave the building to feed, but repeated use of the same entry point or nesting area usually means the structure remains available to them. The entry condition still needs to be addressed.

Can you repair the hole after removing squirrels?

Yes, depending on the location and condition of the building. The repair should be planned after the animal situation is understood so squirrels are not sealed inside.

What if the noises happen at night?

Nighttime activity can point to flying squirrels rather than gray squirrels. Flying squirrels are smaller, nocturnal and often require a different inspection and exclusion plan. See our Flying Squirrel Removal page.

Do you provide squirrel removal outside Charlottesville and Richmond?

Yes. This is our statewide squirrel-removal hub, and we market wildlife-control services across much of Virginia. Call to confirm service for your property.
